Welding steel structures: from design to a quality weld
The weld is often the most heavily loaded part of a structure, so it is defined by the quality of workmanship — not just speed. At Futura Plus in Maribor we weld steel structures for industrial projects across Slovenia and Europe. Below we explain what sets a quality weld apart from an average one.
Preparation is half the job
Good joint preparation — cleaning, the right gap, edge preparation and the choice of filler material — determines the final strength of the weld. Mistakes made during preparation only grow inside the weld.
That is why, on demanding structures, we work to a welding procedure specification (WPS) that precisely defines the parameters.
The right process for the right material
For structural steels we most often use MAG (135/136) for productivity, MMA (111) for on-site assembly and TIG (141) for stainless steel and precise joints. SAW is suitable for long, thick seams.
The choice is not random — it depends on the material, thickness, position and project requirements.
Quality control
We confirm weld quality with appropriate methods:
- Visual inspection of every weld
- Non-destructive methods (e.g. penetrant, radiographic) as needed
- Traceability of materials and welding parameters
Why certified welders
A certificate to EN ISO 9606 proves that the welder is qualified for precisely defined conditions. For the client this means a lower risk of rejection at acceptance and a longer service life of the structure.
